Wassmuth Center Mystery Jelly Roll Retreat

Join Laura and Nadia for a fun weekend of sewing up a MYSTERY QUILT! That’s right-you see the quilt pattern coming together right before your eyes during the weekend! We give you the cutting requirements and you come to retreat ready to sew! As you finish one set of directions, we give you the next and then the next and SEW forth until it all comes together! We will have such fun together seeing how everyone’s fabric choices make up SEW beautifully in this fun pattern! You will need to purchase your pattern before the retreat but you will not receive it until the retreat! The Jelly Roll is included in the class price. Come join us for 2 fun-packed days at the Wassmuth Center in downtown Boise, where we will be creating a Mystery Jelly Roll quilt. Included in this 2-day class will be a private guided tour of the Wassmuth Center and our ‘Happy Together’ quilt in its permanent home. The Wassmuth Center holds a special place in our hearts. Many of you know that my mother, Marilyn Howard, passed away in 2020. In 1998, she was elected Idaho’s 23rd State Superintendent of Public Instruction, after spending her career in the classroom throughout the State of Idaho. My mom had a vision to improve learning for all of Idaho’s children and to elevate and encourage teachers statewide. After the completion of her second term, she become very active in the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights education program. The Center was founded in 1996 to build a memorial to human rights. In 2002 the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial opened to the public. Each year over 10,000 students participate in programming at the Memorial. Additionally, Boise Parks and Rec estimates that 120,000 visitors interact with the Memorials’ messaging each year. Docent-led tours are available upon request year-round. Though inspired by Anne Frank, the Memorial is not simply a static space to reflect on her short life or the horrors of the Holocaust. It was instead designed to actively engage us to think, to talk with one another, and to respond to the human rights issues we face in our community, country and world.
